Cantonese Chinese

Cantonese is the dialect of southern China. It is still spoken today in these regions (especially away from the big cities). However, Mandarin is usually understood there as well.

Cantonese is (besides English) also the language that helps you to get ahead in Hong Kong. The official language of Hong Kong, even after the withdrawal of the British Empire and the subordination of the Chinese government, is still Cantonese and not Mandarin.
